If not at Thompson's someone else in town usually has some.
Wonderful Wards Grill and Thompsons store. Both are great places to visit in Saluda NC.
Cool place no doubt
Great selection for a small town store. Feel like you've stepped back in time...
Great place to visit if you want to go back in time.. Old timey grill with great hamburgers and milk shakes... Setting is limited and expect a wait at peak hours.. Menu is basically burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches... Outstanding breakfast...good hardy food.. Service is friendly and prompt and prices are very reasonable especially breakfast.
I am thoroughly impressed! Delicious food, fair prices, a wonderful staff, and a happy atmosphere! I highly recommend giving Ward’s Grill a go next time you’re in Saluda! 💕
A step back in time and very reasonable prices
You name it and the vet teller/owner will get it for you. I bought local homemade jams and a notebook. Surprise for me were the pictures of him and two of my long time soap stars from "Days of Our Life", Doug and Julie Williams!! Seems they have a summer home here.
One of the many historic gems of Saluda. Great friendly hometown people
Really cool store. Brings back great memories
Check out the history behind it! Good food! Great Service!
Good breakfast in quaint cafe. Attentive staff and clearly a Saturday morning hot spot. Folks waiting for tables.
Great place for jams, jelly and honey. Has all sorts of really good food most of which you can't find anywhere else also a small deli in the back along with wine!
The burgers are wonderful. They grind their own beef fresh each day.
This is a splendid old time grocery/hardware store, spruced up for the tourist trade. One could spend hours here browsing, shopping and eating. If you love Mitchell's in New Bern you'll feel quite at home here too.
Great people && great food!! Big portions!
Fresh sausage, ground elk , ground venison and ground wild boar! What else do you need! Oh yes they even have bee pollen and Dr. Enough!
Incredible meat selections, great affordable wines, and their jellies and jams are the best! Fresh produce, as well! I love Thompson's!!
This place had a very retro feel to it. The front is a market/ grocery store. While the back was a diner. They also had a small deli in the back of the store.
Quaint little historical place. Great food!!
Very interesting and eclectic treasures
I just Love Saluda,I guess because my ancestors came from up in that area many years ago. The Pace Families.
Great wine selection!
Their half pork half beef burger will make you think you're in heaven! Just a wonderful place to eat with great food and friendly staff.
My family and I went there Aug 1st, for my birthday celebration! The food was great, the staff were fantastic, and a plus they had a delicious cake for my birthday! Wonderful place!!!
I have been getting steaks cut there for more than 50 years...the best! The ground sausage is also over the top. Best of all...the people! I also LOVE the burgers and onion rings in the grill.
This is the most wonderful store and town. I truly hope they can preserve their culture and heritage!!
Fun adventure back into history. A must do when visiting Saluda.
Thompson's Grocery Market & Grill is a very interesting place. It's takes you back to a wonderful place in time. My wife and myself enjoyed the conversation with the people working here. They took the time to make us feel appreciated, just for stopping in. How could you not want to enjoy a bite to eat in an atmosphere like this place has? There are so many reasons to love this place. I encourage you to check it out for yourself.
What a neat place! Come and see the oldest grocery store in Saluda, NC. While there be sure to stop at Ward's Grill to eat. So good!
Love this store, close to home to get the necessities when I do not have time to run into town
Cool little shop in downtown Saluda. All the staple plus some cool, area related stuff. They have a butcher in the back. The steaks we got were excellent. Prices were pretty good for it being the only option.
Yummy little diner. Just what you would expect with the cook at the griddle. Server was great with our young kiddos and the food was quick.
This place is a must if you're in Saluda. The grill has an awesome old school atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and the food is AMAZING!!! The grocery store has a great variety given it's size.
I’ll refrain from using expletives; so all I’ll say is “Oh My God!”. I can’t remember the last time I had a burger this good. I got the Wards Burger which is half ground chuck and half sage sausage, and I can’t believe that I’ve lived this long without experiencing something that tastes this amazing. I would’ve taken a picture for my review, but there was nothing left. Although I’m a visitor to this area, I will be making a special trip back just for this burger.
Perfect little store in Norman Rockwell type town. Extremely friendly and helpful.
Ribeyes were excellent! Great selection of food and supplies.
Great place, Passed it by too many times. Stopped today and had a terrific lunch Ward Grill.
Went for lunch and had big juicy burger and fries. Husband had traditional cheeseburger and I tried half homemade sausage & half burger choice. It was super tender juicy and little sweet. Totally delicious! We both loved the bun too. Chopped not sliced onions were a pleasant surprise. Fast and friendly.
Must see, still ole school an very friendly people
They're claiming the fame is being the oldest grocery store in North Carolina. It was really cool experience for the family. They also have like a diner attached to it. I thought the prices were going to be sky high but they were actually reasonable and they had 10% off on Tuesday so we really lucked out.
Nice place to stop in to rest and have a meal. Burgers are great there!
Loved my dining experience here.
Very cool. Like stepping back in time. You will find what you need, plus they have an interesting assortment of local craft brews. Certainly a must if you are visiting Saluda.
Didn't know history to be honest about this old town!!
We visited the tiny but precious town of Saluda NC and fell in love. This store is 100 or so years old and carries things you may need during your visit. There is also a deli in the back. A small restaurant is attached. While we didn't eat there everything sure smelled good.
Terrific assortment of food and beverages and a wonderful atmosphere.
We went Labor Day morning. We both ordered two eggs scrambled, with bacon and grits. We also got a cup of coffee. The coffee was weak and there was food caked to the side of the cup. We waited for more than an hour for our food to arrive - surprising as our order was rather simple. When the food did arrive our eggs weren’t just undercooked they were still raw. Inedible. The bacon was fin but it was the same bacon that was ready when we walked in the door an hour earlier. Our grits were stone cold and dry to the point of being hard and crusty- not in a good way. Our overworked waitress did her best. She was waiting tables, buzzing tables, serving food, taking orders, running the register and constantly apologizing for the mess, the wait etc. If you’re looking for a local diner experience when rafting or exploring the area... keep looking. This is not the diner you’re hoping it is.
Must see full service historic grocery store.
Very good food, the Wards burger, which is half beef and half sage sausage was great. Busy place but worth it. 👍
This store will take you back in time to the way things were decades ago. History preserved. It is a must see.
